First two days of vacation.

I love vacation! So far in my first two official days of vacation (I don't count the weekend as they're just....normal) I have gotten a ton more sewing done than in the last I don't know how long!

Yesterday I got most of C's apron cut out (I had forgotten to make a medium of one piece) and some pinning done. Yay!

Today, even with doing a bunch of pre-camp thrift shopping I got a new apron pattern (for Little Miss C - my BFFs daughter) drafted, got it cut out and all the edges hemmed and got the first part of the embellishment sewn.

When we visit last month I totally forgot that L'il Miss C's b'day was fast approaching and we didn't leave anything behind for her. When I remembered I was just entering apron mode and her mom agreed that a pink apron with some kitties and some lace would be greatly appreciated.

So first I drafted the pattern. I used a basic pattern I got from Martha S for the general shape, used a size 5 dress I still had around (it was S's) for some of the sizing and measurement from her mom for the rest.

I think it looks pretty good. As you can see I'm using some scrap from my Pink Kitty Apron. I can't find the rest of the plain pink (put it somewhere safe???) so I'm using a lovely textured sheet I bought a while ago at the thrift store. Who knows what the rest will become, but you're sure to see it some time!
This is the basic apron with the first "pocket" just laying on it.
It's cute but...

I don't think it's quite enough, so, let's try some eyelet lace.....
Yeah, that's a little more girly, don't you think? I do too.
Next it will get a bigger rectangular pocket and some ties. I'm not quite sure what to make the ties out of but I'm sure something will come to me.

Progress and another apron

So, some progress has been made on the sewing room.
I now have my sewing table and both machines upstairs, the cutting table and the iron and ironing board upstairs. And they're all in the same room! In the basement I had  them split amongst two rooms. One of which C took over last summer saying her room was too hot to sleep in. Which was fine but it's hard to sew when you've got a teenager sleeping in the room with the sewing machine and serger!

So now that the room is a little more finished (although I'm really only using 1/2 right now) it's time to get some sewing done.

1st up is another apron for me and one for C too - she looks silly with her skinny little self in my apron!

Here's a pic of the material. My background colour will be blue, C's will be (what else!) pink. Now I just have to do the prewash and copy out the pattern pieces in her size. Not my favorite thing :-(

A little progress and a give-away

No progress on the sloper but I did get the loveseat out of the Pink room so now there's room for my table for my serger and my sewing machine and I ironed my new linen blouse.

Also found a give-away on one of my fav blogs. I LOVE the set the winner gets. Memememememe please! LOL Click "blogs" to go see for yourself, and if you *have* to enter too!

The book I'm working from

Tonight I thought I'd show some pictures of the book I'm going to be using to draft my basic sloper.

There is a large Women's one and then a smaller book for drafting kid's clothes.

They are by M Rohr (sorry, the front cover is all blotchy, I got it that way) and the main section is copyrighted 1948 with some pages in the front (in green) copyrighted 1950.
The Children's one is copyrighted 1947.
This is a picture of the first page; it's a hip length dress foundation in 1/4 in scale with a Neck and Armhole guide. Cool huh?

To the left - the first page of actual "work" telling you what measurement you'll be starting with.
To the right - the illustrated index of what patterns you can learn to draft. There's everything from coats to pinafores to nightgowns. The gorgeous suit on the opposite of the index is from a magazine and was in the book when I bought it. I love it! Could never wear it, but I love it. The book had another magazine picture in the back. I'll photograph that later. It also has some little notes in it which are neat.
